We’re seeking a skilled, driven, and proactive Health & Safety Representative to be a key part of our team. Reporting to the Human Resources Director, you will champion a culture of safety across all our operations. You’ll be responsible for promoting safe work practices, maintaining and managing our health and safety programs, and ensuring a secure work environment with the goal of reducing accidents, injuries, and damage to people, equipment, and the environment. This role is primarily based at our winery at 3725 Boucherie Road, West Kelowna, with regular travel to our other locations across the Okanagan, including Vernon and Osoyoos. ResponsibilitiesManage, maintain and administer Frind Winery Ltd.’s health and safety program across our business operation, including but not limited to: Hospitality, Production, Vineyards, etc.Participate in projects and activities to enhance organizational performance and promote and support a culture of safetyAct as the first point-of-contact for safety inquiries and incidents and promptly deal with complaints relating to the health and safety of workersRecommend improvements of the occupational health and safety, and the occupational environment of workersRecommend educational programs promoting the health and safety of workers and compliance with the OHS provisions of the Workers Compensation Act and the regulations, and monitor their effectivenessAdvise the employer on programs and policies required under the regulations for the workplace, and to monitor their effectivenessProvide guidance, advice and assistance to managers, supervisors and workers on a variety of matters including safety of workers, job procedures, property and equipment.Relay required safety information to all new hiresPerform risk assessments to eliminate or reduce hazardous effects on workers, the environment and equipmentConduct and document inspections and regular site visits to verify compliance with corporate policies and health and safety regulationsIdentify corrective action to be taken when unsafe acts are identified during an inspection process; assist in resolving any issues of non-compliance; and provide education to site personnel in matters of health and safetyParticipate and support employees and contractors in conducting effective incident investigations that identify underlying causes and effective corrective measuresEnsure all required documentation is effectively organized and copies are shared with the appropriate groupsFile required accident/ incident reports accordinglyReview incident reports, monthly statistics, inspection reports and can identify undesirable trends and provide appropriate recommendationsWork with departmental management on the development/implementation of specific safety plans, job hazard assessments, safe work procedures and rectify any deficienciesOrganize legislative and other H&S training and guidance for managers, supervisors, JHSC members, and workers on a variety of safety topics such as safety orientation, regulations, WHMIS, accident and injury prevention, confined space, fall protection, emergency response, safe work practices, first aid, etc.Lead the Joint Health & Safety Committee, attending regular committee meetings as the trained Worker Safety Representative, provide advice and assistance to the committee, present relevant safety information, and document and distribute meeting minutesImplement and maintain safety-related training tracking and scheduling monitoring for expiryAssist and provide guidance on return-to-work plans for occupational and non-occupational illness and injuriesLiaise with applicable regulatory agencies such as WorkSafe BC regarding occupational illness and injury claims and exchange information, advice and coordinate activitiesAct as a subject matter expert on a variety of safety related topics and keep current on changes in best practices and legislative changesOther duties as assigned Skills & QualificationsMust be legally eligible to work, and reside in CanadaCertified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), or currently in process3-5 years of experience leading safety initiativesExperience in hospitality, agriculture and/or food and beverage manufacturing an asset Certificate or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or other combination of education and experience may be consideredFirst aid, CPR, and any other relevant medical certification and trainingJoint Committee Member TrainingClass 5 driver’s license in good standing for the purpose of regularly travelling between sites across the Okanagan between Vernon and OsoyoosSound knowledge of safety program/policy design, review, and evaluation.Experience with conducting risk assessments, teaching first aid, and ensuring legal compliance are idealMust have an understanding of relevant health and safety regulations and guidelinesSound judgement and decision-making skillsExcellent technical report writing ability and written communication skills to write and evaluate safety programs and manualsStrong verbal communication and interpersonal skills to liaise internally and externally for the purpose of exchanging information and providing guidance on policies and programsAbility to influence and collaborate with all levels across the organizationSolid analytical skills to interpret legislation and convert into relevant safety programs and problem-solving skillsStrong administrative skills along with the ability to maintain and report accurate dataStrong problem-solving skills and ability to exercise good judgementComfortable, multi-tasking, working under pressure, and managing timelinesComfortable working independently Why Work for Us?Join a team of dedicated individuals who are passionate about wine and committed to excellence in every aspect of our operations.We embrace innovation and creativity in everything we do, from winemaking techniques to customer experiences.Our commitment to excellence runs through everything we do, from vineyard management to customer service. What we offer The pay range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 / year. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role.
