We offer a 15-bed emergency shelter with private bedrooms and access to all necessary amenities. In addition to shelter services, our Transitional Support Program provides counselling and other holistic services such as legal, housing, and immigration support. Nelson House also operates a crisis helpline, answering over 1,000 calls annually to provide immediate support and safety planning.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role located in Nepean, ON, for an Executive Director. The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Nelson House, managing staff, and developing strategic initiatives to enhance services. Other duties include budget management, fundraising, grant writing, and maintaining relationships with community partners. The Executive Director will ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and represent Nelson House in the community.

Qualifications

  • Leadership and management skills, including staff supervision and strategic planning
  • Experience in budget management and financial oversight
  • Fundraising and grant writing expertise
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of issues related to domestic violence and women's services
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain community partnerships
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, or related field
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience is an asset

Who you are

  • Minimum of five years of senior leadership experience, preferably in the non-profit or social services sector
  • Strong skills in advocacy, communications, and fundraising
  • Experience working with high-risk populations and navigating multi-stakeholder environments
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Sciences, Health Administration, Education, or a related field
  • Commitment to feminist, anti-racism, and anti-oppression principles
