Job Description and Responsibilities

EVRAZ North America is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to join our team based in either Edmonton or Camrose, Alberta. In this role, you will play a key role in advancing our safety culture as an integral part of the site leadership team and as a member of the Canadian Operations Safety team. This is a frontline facing role with a focus on engagement of our teams in improving their safety.
  • Perform the role as technical expert on the Alberta OH&S code for the facility
  • Assist with Industrial Hygiene related programs and upgrade with continuous improvement as the objective
  • Maintain effective standardized tools to monitor the success of safety management systems and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Provide leadership and guidance to operations in the performance of safety management requirements
  • Manage compliance with the Contractor Safety Policy
  • Provide direction and support to the facility joint health and safety committee
  • Provide oversight and direction to union safety representatives on safety policies and technical safety issues
  • Coordinate with our disability claims advisor and aligned Occupational Injury Specialist (OIS) clinics to ensure safe and successful accommodations and return to work plans for our employees.
  • Supervise, coordinate and conduct plant compliance audits and physical inspections
  • Maintain records and documentation required by national or provincial regulations
  • Maintain and update existing cardinal safety programs
  • Track completion of corrective actions identified through audits or investigations
  • Directly interact with the Plant Operations Managers and Senior Management staff members in the determination of loss prevention objectives and the development of objective attainment plans


Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience managing a comprehensive safety program in an industrial environment
  • A safety designation such as CRSP or NCSO is preferred
  • Experience in safety management systems implementation and continuous improvement with skills directly related to risk assessments
  • Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to affect positive behavior in others
  • Ability to be on site in both Edmonton and Camrose locations as required
