About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Correctional Officer to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a Correctional Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and secure custody, control, and supervision of adult offenders in our correctional facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide dynamic supervision of adult offenders and maintain a safe and secure environment within the facility.
  • Participate in the case management of adult offenders, including approving and arranging professional and personal visits, and escorting offenders within the facility.
  • Respond to adult offender complaints and requests, and assist in the completion of forms and reports.
  • Supervise facility cleaning and maintenance activities, and submit maintenance work orders as required.
  • Advise adult offenders of available programs and refer them to the posted program schedule.
  • Record and communicate information through reports, forms, logbooks, email, and JEIN documentation.
Requirements
  • High School diploma and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience in law enforcement, security, or the military is considered an asset.
  • Previous employment as a Correctional Officer is also an asset.
  • Knowledge or experience in a computerized/automated environment is an asset.
  • Leadership experience, particularly in leading youth programs, groups, or committees, is an asset.
