Erm is seeking a highly skilled Ecologist/Wetland Specialist Consultant to support our Mining and Energy teams in Vancouver, BC, or Calgary, AB. As a key member of our team, you will act as a terrestrial ecologist/wetland specialist in western Canada, with capacity to conduct work in other jurisdictions across Canada.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. We are looking for an experienced professional to develop and lead field programs primarily in BC and Alberta.
  2. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the preparation of soils, terrestrial ecosystem, and wetland assessments for environmental impact assessments and associated management plans.
  3. This role involves performing project delivery activities such as survey field work, data collection, literature review, report writing, and developing recommendations for clients.
  4. You will also assist with developing various environmental permitting applications and support preparation of proposals, including development of scopes and cost estimates.
  5. In addition, you will communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, landowners, and clients during field activities.
  6. The successful candidate will manage a team of junior and intermediate level ERM employees with similar interests and experience, providing top quality mentorship opportunities and growing the ERM team from within.
Requirements:
  1. A B.Sc. degree in Sciences, Environmental Engineering or related field, M.Sc. preferred.
  2. No less than 5 years of relevant technical and environmental consulting experience; prior experience in government, and/or mining or oil and gas sectors are considered assets.
  3. Environmental Assessment drafting experience.
  4. Expertise with Federal, Provincial and Territorial regulations and guidelines pertaining to survey methodologies and environmental assessments.
  5. Expertise with wetland delineation, classification, effect assessment and associated regulatory permitting (per Authenticating Wetland Practitioner requirements).
  6. Wetland and upland plant identification, rare plant identification an asset.
  7. Experience conducting soil surveys and associated mapping an asset.
  8. Experience completing terrestrial ecosystem mapping projects according to provincial standards, guidelines and procedures an asset.
  9. Holds relevant professional designation and is an Authenticating Wetland Practitioner, or immediate eligibility, P.Ag or R.P.Bio preferred.
  10. A strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols.
  11. The ability to lead, follow directions, and take initiative when required.
  12. Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.
  13. Proven people management skills.
  14. The ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment.
  15. A valid driver's license and good driving record.
  16. French language skills an asset.

The estimated salary range for this position is between $90,000 and $120,000 per year, based on location and experience.
