Senior Terrestrial Ecologist

We are seeking an experienced Senior Terrestrial Ecologist to join our team in Vancouver, BC or Calgary, AB. As a key member of our Mining and Energy teams, you will conduct terrestrial ecosystem assessments, wetland delineations, and effect assessments for ERM projects in western Canada and other jurisdictions.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead field programs, primarily in BC and Alberta, to conduct surveys, data collection, and literature reviews.
  2. Prepare environmental assessments, management plans, and permitting applications in compliance with federal, provincial, and territorial regulations.
  3. Deliver project results, including report writing and recommendations for clients, while ensuring quality standards and meeting client expectations.
  4. Develop proposals, scopes, and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients and leads.
  5. Manage a team of junior and intermediate-level employees, providing mentorship opportunities and growing the ERM team from within.
  6. Collaborate with other ERM employees worldwide to build strong relationships and achieve shared goals.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  2. At least 5 years of relevant technical and environmental consulting experience, with a focus on government, mining, or oil and gas sectors.
  3. Experience with environmental assessment drafting, wetland delineation, and effect assessment.
  4. Expertise in federal, provincial, and territorial regulations and guidelines for survey methodologies and environmental assessments.
  5. Wetland and upland plant identification, rare plant identification, and experience with soil surveys and terrestrial ecosystem mapping are assets.
  6. Holds a relevant professional designation and is an Authenticating Wetland Practitioner or eligible for it.
  7. Strong commitment to safety, excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  8. Proven people management skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, and a valid driver's license.
