Job Title: Canadian Safety Director

Railserve, Canada is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Canadian Safety Director to lead our EH&S program across the Canadian region.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the company EH&S program across the Canadian region, working with government, regulatory and corporate bodies to ensure Canadian compliance.
  2. Protect Railserve Canada's reputation and opportunities for growth through maintenance of an excellent safety record and standing with recognized boards.
  3. Establish necessary policies to protect workers and using data to identify trends and opportunities to drive improvements.
  4. Set safety strategy to support the Canadian Strategy and work with the leadership team to establish objectives and tactical items to deliver.

Qualifications:

  1. Five to ten years related experience in a safety position, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a rail environment.
  2. 2 year safety related certificate or higher from an accredited educational institution.
  3. Preferred: 5+ years in Transportation industry
  4. Preferred: 3+ years in Oil/Gas or Chemical production plan

Skills and Competencies:

  1. Demonstrated experience in Root Cause Investigation and Causal investigation.
  2. Excellent knowledge of OSHA standards and Canadian Federal and provincial safety legislation.
  3. Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the workplace.
  4. Familiarity with writing health and safety policies and procedures.
  5. Proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
  6. Working knowledge of safety management software, EH&S.
  7. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  8. Possesses strong leadership skills and ability to implement positive change.
  9. Provide a positive leadership example by demonstrating safe behaviors and encouraging those behavior in others.

Language Skills:

  1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legislation, governmental regulations and technical procedures.
  2. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability:

  1. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  2. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  1. Safety certification or degree from an accredited educational institution.
  2. CRSP designation preferred but not required.
