About the Role

The Senior Buyer, under general supervision, is responsible for procuring and negotiating with approved vendors to meet product requirements established by various departments within the organization. Additional responsibilities include providing guidance and direction to other Buyers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchase general and specialized equipment, materials, or business services for use or further processing.
  • Assess requirements and develop specifications for equipment, materials, and supplies to be purchased.
  • Invite tenders, consult with suppliers, and review quotations.
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions, award supplier contracts, or recommend contract awards.
  • Establish delivery schedules, monitor progress, and contact clients and suppliers to resolve problems.
  • Resolve quality, commercial, or servicing issues with suppliers in collaboration with business units.
  • Negotiate ongoing contracts with suppliers to ensure identified servicing incentives.
  • Participate in identifying strategic suppliers and purchasing initiatives with plants.
  • Outsource projects involving breaking down components, establishing target costs, processing RFQs, requests for proposals, and sourcing new suppliers.
  • Develop strategies for short and long-term goals and objectives to effectively utilize corporate purchasing leverage through consolidation.
  • Analyze monthly sales for current and past years to identify seasonal variations in sales.
  • Calculate year-to-date sales, average inventory levels, inventory turnover rates, and order fill rates to diagnose purchasing and distribution problems.
  • Negotiate contracts, resolve disputes, agreements, and terms with new suppliers and existing suppliers.
  • Evaluate the quality of products and service provided by suppliers.
