About the Role

This position requires a highly skilled individual who can lead the provision of evidence-based care to animals within shelter programs. As the Lead Certified Animal Trainer, you will oversee the development of educational training initiatives, workshops, and resources, as well as the implementation of evidence-based training and behavior modification intervention plans and enrichment handling.

Your role will involve mentoring and training staff, volunteers, and students in animal behavior and training techniques, creating and delivering behavior modification plans for animals within shelter programs, and assisting in other shelter functions as needed.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating animal populations and adapt to changing circumstances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for certified animal trainers.
  • Create and deliver behavior modification plans for animals within shelter programs.
  • Mentor and train staff, volunteers, and students in animal behavior and training techniques.
About You

To succeed in this role, you must have a strong background in animal training and behavior modification. A minimum of 5+ years of experience in animal training, including human-directed aggression, is required.

A certification in CPDT, IAABC, or KPA is necessary. You must also have experience working in a shelter or similar setting and be able to create and deliver behavior modification plans.

As a leader, you will be expected to exhibit patience, calmness, and excellent communication skills. The ability to work individually and as part of a team is essential.
