About the Role

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a highly skilled Volunteer Engagement and Development Manager to join our dynamic Donor Relations and Field Operations team.

The Donor Relations and Field Operations team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by recruiting donors to join Canada's Lifeline to support Blood, Plasma, and Stem Cell collections which save lives every day.

In this role, you will manage a dynamic volunteer engagement system that enhances the overall volunteer experience while aligning with organizational priorities. You will provide leadership and support to operational departments related to volunteer engagement within Canadian Blood Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizing your ability to lead and work collaboratively across diverse teams, you will facilitate integration activities within the division and with other Canadian Blood Services divisions to ensure execution of key strategic and operational priorities related to volunteers within the organization.
  • Harnessing your ability to analyze complex problems, interpret business needs, and develop integrated, innovative solutions, you will collaborate with others in the volunteer department to develop approaches to improve volunteer risk mitigation within the organization.
  • Leveraging your excellent program/project management and planning skills, you will develop, implement and monitor objectives to manage volunteer performance, including performance reviews, correct action processes, retention strategies, performance evaluations and objectives of the volunteer engagement team.
  • Drawing on your exceptional organizational and time management skills, you will lead the development of an annual volunteer recognition plan and support others within the volunteer engagement team to implement the plan.
  • In keeping with the Canadian Code of Volunteer Involvement, you will develop, review, and administer national best practices and policies which guide volunteer engagement initiatives and reflect overall organizational values and priorities.
  • Applying your excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will build and maintain strong relationships with key operational leaders in areas such as recruitment, collections, and resources to achieve volunteer strategic objectives.
  • Concentrating on your demonstrated knowledge and expertise, you will lead the development of an employee training program that supports both the volunteer management team and other employees to better understand the volunteer lifecycle and volunteer engagement at Canadian Blood Services.
  • Using your analytical skills, you will develop benchmark metrics for the volunteer program that are meaningful and contribute to the advancement of the organizational strategy.

Requirements

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Volunteer Resources Administration from an accredited post-secondary institute.
  • Demonstrates involvement in the profession and a commitment to volunteerism.
  • Possess the experience and leadership required to be successful in our organization as well as the necessary managerial, communication and people skills.
  • CVA certification or other volunteer certifications are an asset.
  • Understanding and application of the VMPC Standards of Practice and Ethical Conduct and the Canadian Code of Volunteer Involvement.
  • Microsoft Suite of products and Better Impact volunteer management software.
  • Knowledge of volunteer resources management theory and practice.
  • Excellent program/project management, planning and organizational skills.
  • Experience managing a large, geographically dispersed team.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, and comfort in presenting in front of others.
  • Basic knowledge of labour relations' principles.
