GEMTEC Consulting Engineers & Scientists Limited is a renowned firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ontario, seeking an accomplished Materials Science Specialist to join our team. We are currently looking for a full-time Materials Science Specialist to work in our Petawawa office.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Geotechnical Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in materials testing and inspection is preferred.
  • Familiarity with relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards.
  • OACETT certification is an asset.
Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate expertise in the following areas:

  • Collecting samples and performing laboratory and field testing of various construction materials, such as concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, etc., to determine material properties and quality.
  • Compaction testing of soil, aggregates, and asphalt concrete.
  • Testing of fresh concrete/grout/mortar and casting of laboratory specimens.
  • Conducting inspections and assessments of construction sites, documenting findings and providing detailed reports on test results, including analysis and recommendations.
  • Preparing detailed and accurate field reports for use by project managers and engineers.
  • Maintaining effective communication with project teams, providing regular updates on field activities and findings.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Maintaining and calibrating testing equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborating with the project team to troubleshoot and resolve any materials-related issues.
  • Able to work under varied weather conditions.
  • Capable of walking and engaging in fieldwork for extended periods across occasionally challenging terrain, as well as the ability to transport equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Identifying and mitigating potential hazards in the field, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Adhering to health and safety protocols, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Adhering to all company policies.
  • Other duties as required.
Position Details

This position is full-time, with a flexible schedule that may vary with client workload. The ideal candidate must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
