GEMTEC Consulting Engineers & Scientists Limited is seeking a highly skilled Materials Technician/Technologist to join their team in Petawawa.

The ideal candidate will have a diploma or degree in Geotechnical Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field, and possess previous experience in materials testing and inspection. Knowledge of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards, is essential.

Main Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting samples and performing laboratory and field testing of various construction materials, such as concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, etc., to determine material properties and quality. This will include compaction testing of soil, aggregates, and asphalt concrete, as well as testing of fresh concrete/grout/mortar and casting of laboratory specimens.

Other Duties:

The candidate will also conduct inspections and assessments of construction sites, document findings and provide detailed reports on test results, including analysis and recommendations. Additionally, they will prepare detailed and accurate field reports for use by project managers and engineers, maintain effective communication with project teams, and ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or degree in Geotechnical Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Previous experience in materials testing and inspection
  • Knowledge of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards
  • OACETT is an asset

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be required to work under varied weather conditions, walk and engage in fieldwork for extended periods across occasionally challenging terrain, and transport equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
