Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Director of Asset Management to lead our Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) initiatives. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective HSE strategies, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a culture of safety across our organization.
Salary Range
$140,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Conwest Contracting Ltd. as a Senior Director of Asset Management, reporting directly to the Vice President of Construction. You will be responsible for leading a team of HSE professionals and working closely with various stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of HSE practices into all aspects of our business.
HSE Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and implement effective HSE strategies, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a culture of safety.
- Lead the development and maintenance of emergency response plans and procedures.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all applicable HSE regulations and standards.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify potential risks and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Manage all aspects of Worksafe BC's Certificate of Recognition (COR) program.
Training and Development
- Oversee and participate in the development and delivery of HSE campaigns and training programs to ensure all managers, project teams and personnel are knowledgeable and competent in relevant practices and procedures.
- Foster a continuous learning environment, promoting the development of HSE skills and knowledge across the organization.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Enhance and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor HSE performance.
- Prepare regular reports on HSE performance for senior management, identifying trends, areas for improvement, and success stories.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of HSE incidents and near misses.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, clients, and industry groups.
- Represent the organization in HSE-related discussions and negotiations.
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
- Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally with a focus on heavy civil construction industry practices and processes.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian/BC HSE regulations, WCB requirements, standards, and best practices.
- Proven track record of successful HSE strategy development, cultural change initiatives and implementation, including solid presentation, meeting and training facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated experience in report writing to a senior level.
- Demonstrated capability to develop and nurture business relationships with industry leaders and stakeholders in order to identify their needs and act as their advocate in proactively communicating those needs and managing issues.
- Proficiency in HSE management systems and software (HCSS Safety knowledge an asset).
- High ethics, tact, diplomacy and emotional intelligence. Thorough and detail oriented, with good organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of unionized labor environment an asset.
- Valid driver's license required.
