About the Role
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a skilled Mental Health and Substance Use Nurse to join our team at Sechelt Hospital in Sechelt, BC. As a key member of our Psychiatry Inpatient team, you will provide high-quality care to clients with severe and persistent mental illness, concurrent disorders, and/or dementia.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized direct nursing care, discharge planning, and case coordination services to clients.
- Enhance the quality of life of clients and their families.
- Perform physical and psychosocial rehabilitation assessments.
- Consult, confer, and collaborate with other healthcare providers and family members to develop, implement, evaluate, and modify individualized treatment plans.
- Establish, maintain, and enhance therapeutic relationships based on respect.
- Administer prescribed medicines, monitor client response, and provide ongoing information to clients and their families on activities of daily living, use of medication, and side effects.
- Prepare and maintain client records according to established standards.
- Participate in team meetings, engage in team planning, and quality improvement activities, and maintain and update your own knowledge.

Sechelt Hospital is an acute care facility located in Sechelt, BC, serving over 30,000 residents of the Lower Sunshine Coast. We provide a range of services, including emergency care, renal program, mental health and substance use services, surgical services, and imaging services.
Qualifications
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
- Completion of a minimum 6-week or 240 hours of clinical practicum/preceptorship in a mental health setting, supplemented by completion of coursework in mental health or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
