Database Administrator Role

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to play a critical role in ensuring the availability and performance of our division's applications. As a key member of our IT team, you will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance management of our SQL Server RDBMS systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement and configure SQL Server databases to ensure optimal operation and performance.
  • Perform routine administration and performance monitoring activities to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Provide advice and guidance to development staff on database design, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to production.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Analyze, solve, and correct issues in real-time, providing end-to-end problem resolution.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Participate in continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Stay up-to-date with new technologies and advancements in SQL Server administration.
  • Identify problem trends and proactively take action to reduce re-occurring incidents.
  • Crosstrain developers and server administrators on good database design practices.
  • Proactively monitor and report on system resources being consumed, providing early warning of resource contentions and shortages.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in MS SQL Server Administration.
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with backups, restores, and recovery models.
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
  • Experience with SQL and PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.
  • Experience with cloud services (Microsoft Azure, AWS) a plus.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate certifications a plus, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in building relationships with peers and customers.
  • Ability to organize and plan work independently.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams.
