About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled SQL Server Database Administrator to join our team at Precision Castparts. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance management of our critical SQL Server RDBMS systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Database Administration: Provide project and enhancement work on a range of new and existing SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal operation and performance.
  • Performance Monitoring: Perform routine administration and performance monitoring activities to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our division applications.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide advice and guidance to development staff on SQL Server best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Issue Resolution: Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real-time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Process Improvement: Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes to improve overall efficiency.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development teams to assist with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Support: Provide support outside of normal office hours on a pre-planned basis and at short notice in emergency situations.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance our database administration practices.
  • Security and Compliance: Configure and maintain SQL Security controls to ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards.
  • Documentation and Training: Create documentation and training for routine database administration activities to ensure knowledge sharing and consistency.
  • Staying Current: Stay abreast of new technologies related to SQL Server and database administration to ensure our systems remain up-to-date and secure.
  • Problem Prevention: Identify problem trends and proactively take action to reduce re-occurring incidents.
  • Cross-Training: Crosstrain developers and server administrators on good database design practices to ensure a cohesive understanding of our database architecture.
  • Resource Monitoring: Proactively monitor and report on system resources being consumed, providing early warning of resource contentions and shortages to management with recommended course of action.
Requirements
  • Experience: 5+ years of MS SQL Server Administration experience required.
  • Skills: Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools; knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server; experience with SQL and PowerShell scripting; experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.
  • Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate certifications a plus, or equivalent experience.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience and/or current SQL Server Accredited DBA status may be acceptable substitutes.
Working Conditions
  • Work Environment: Ability to sit at a standard desk within a standard office working environment for long periods of time.
  • Travel: Minor travel is required based upon requirement of issues or projects.
