Role Overview
The Government of Alberta is seeking qualified lawyers to serve as Justices of the Peace in various locations across the province. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about upholding the law and serving their community.
Key Responsibilities
As a Justice of the Peace, you will be responsible for presiding over court proceedings, making decisions on matters of law, and upholding the principles of justice. You will work closely with the Alberta Court of Justice and Alberta Justice to ensure that the legal system is fair and effective.
Requirements
To be eligible for this role, you must be a Canadian citizen and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta. You must also have a minimum of five years of related experience at the Bar and be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the law and its application.
Selection Criteria
Applicants will be considered on the basis of criteria such as integrity, professional excellence, community and social awareness, cultural sensitivity, and personal suitability. A screening process will be conducted to ensure that only the most suitable candidates are selected for appointment.
Restrictions on Other Employment
Successful full-time applicants will not be able to practice law, while successful part-time applicants will not be able to practice criminal law or family law, appear as counsel on any matters in the Alberta Court of Justice, or represent any client in any proceeding involving the Government of Alberta or the Government of Canada.

- Shift work is a requirement of this position.
