Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our team at Definity. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for assessing, accepting, and declining new business submissions, as well as re-underwriting and negotiating renewals and policy endorsements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate new business submissions to determine risk levels and make informed decisions
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with brokers and other stakeholders
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of risk acceptance with brokers
  • Provide technical support to brokers and internal teams
  • Participate in production calls and meetings to discuss business performance and goals
Requirements
  • University degree in any discipline or a 2-year diploma from a publicly recognized and funded college or a completed CIP designation
  • High degree of proficiency in English required to service customers across Canada
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Commercial Lines underwriting, with established relationships with key brokers an asset
  • Strong analytical skills, with ability to quickly interpret data and information
  • Strong customer service, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer literacy skills and ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders
  • Professional, friendly, and courteous in all interactions
  • Ability to perform well in a busy environment and remain calm under pressure
  • Team player with adaptability to a changing environment
  • Fluency in both English and French, oral and written
