SalaryThis is a full-time temporary position with an annual salary range of $93,671 - $110,063, prorated to the duration of the assignment. The start date will be as soon as possible, with an end date of August 29, 2025.
Job DescriptionAs part of a multidisciplinary team, under the direction of the Social Work Lead, the Addictions Counsellor will be responsible for:
- Providing clinical support relating to intake, assessment, education, treatment, consultation, and referral for clients experiencing or affected by problems related to substance use.
- Delivering individual and group counselling/psychoeducation to students in grades 7-12.
- Supporting families of students affected by problems related to addiction.
- Liaising with the community to facilitate pathways to service.
- Providing professional development to school staff, students, and parents (may require infrequent evening work).
- Coordinating and consulting with other members of a multidisciplinary team.
- Responding to crisis situations, assessing suicide risk, and participating in Violence Threat Risk Assessments.
- Addressing chronic absenteeism.
- Engaging in data collection, research, and report writing.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A Master's degree in Social Work.
- Membership in the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in providing clinical services to youth.
- Significant understanding of substance use and technology overuse issues, mental health, concurrent disorders, and problematic gambling.
- Knowledge of evidence-based treatment approaches in the fields of mental health and addiction.
- Superior knowledge base in community-based addictions services.
- Knowledge of community resources in other sectors (i.e., youth justice, child welfare, healthcare, mental health, etc.).
- Technology skills in preparing educational resources and working collaboratively within Google Suite.
