LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services is a distinguished Canadian organization with over five decades of expertise. We deliver laboratory testing services that empower healthcare professionals to diagnose, treat, monitor, and prevent diseases in patients.
As a Specimen Collection Specialist, your primary responsibility will be managing the specimen collection process, from welcoming patients to preparing specimens for transport. This role is crucial in patient care and our operations, allowing you to witness the positive impact you have on patients' lives.
In this position, you will:
- Welcome patients and gather necessary information, clarify the specimen collection procedure, and ensure adherence to required test protocols prior to collection.
- Conduct phlebotomies, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
- Execute specialized test collections, including medical/legal drug screenings, paternity assessments, and clinical trials, while completing relevant documentation.
- Foster client relationships by addressing inquiries and following up on requests.
- Accurately enter required patient demographics, requisition details, and other pertinent information related to processing test results.
- Prepare specimens for transportation and subsequent testing.
The ideal candidate for this position will prioritize exceptional customer and patient service, demonstrating the ability to connect with patients and clients even in challenging situations. Key attributes include empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and strong problem-solving skills.
Additional qualifications include:
- Completion of an accredited Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
- Proficient computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.

Compensation: $28.05
The compensation range has been established; however, the final salary will be determined based on experience, educational background, external market conditions, and internal equity.
