Emergency Response Officer

About the Role:
The Edmonton Police Service is seeking highly skilled and dedicated individuals to join our Emergency Communications team as Emergency Communications Officers. In this critical role, you will be responsible for answering emergency calls, dispatching police units, and providing critical support to our officers and the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answering emergency calls and dispatching police units in a timely and efficient manner
- Providing critical support to officers and the community through effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Working rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage
- Operating a variety of computer, telephone, and radio systems to manage emergency calls and dispatch police units
- Providing excellent customer service to internal and external clients, including the public and police officers
Requirements:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent required
- Emergency Communications and Response Certificate and/or equivalent education from a recognized post-secondary institution, or a minimum of two (2) years of emergency communications experience in a public safety environment
- Ability to perform duties in a shift work environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Accurate and efficient typing skills
- High level of integrity and confidentiality
- Critical thinking skills and a proven ability to make sound decisions
- Broad knowledge of police practices and procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in a written format
- Ability to manage demanding and high-stress situations
