As a member of the Computing and Communications Services (CCS) team at the University of Guelph, you will play a key role in supporting the institution's database systems and information management processes.

Job Overview

This position involves leading the Database Administration team to implement solutions that meet the needs of the university community and partners. You will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining SQL Server databases, performing backup and recovery procedures, and monitoring database performance.

Responsibilities
  • Database Administration: Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Backup and Recovery: Perform regular backups and ensure timely recovery in case of data loss or corruption.
  • Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to improve efficiency.
  • Data Migration and Integration: Develop and implement strategies for migrating and integrating data from various sources.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, providing technical support to users as needed.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate documentation of database procedures and policies, ensuring compliance with IT standards and best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5-6 years of related database administration experience, preferably with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Expert knowledge of SQL Server, including performance tuning and optimization.
  • Experience with Windows servers, Transact-SQL, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
