Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Recreation Assistant to join the team at Banfield Pavilions at Vancouver General Hospital. As a Recreation Assistant, you will work in a team-based environment to carry out recreation programs in consultation with the Recreation Therapist.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Recreation Therapist in planning and implementing recreation programs for patients, clients, and residents.
  • Organize and oversee patients, clients, and residents on outings, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Coordinate the portering of patients, clients, and residents to and from activities, using a bus or van with a seating capacity of up to 25 passengers.
  • Demonstrate techniques of recreation activities and provide functional direction to volunteers.
  • Evaluate and report relevant observations of patients', clients', and residents' progress and participation to the Recreation Therapist or interdisciplinary team.
  • Organize furnishings and equipment for designated activities and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Completion of a recognized Recreation Diploma Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate recreation activities.
  • Ability to organize work and prioritize tasks.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment and vehicles.
