Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as an Activity Coordinator at Fraser Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and implementing recreational programs for residents in our care facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate group and individual activities, including table games, current events, sports activities, music, and special events.
  • Operate a passenger transportation vehicle with a seating capacity of between 11 and 25 passengers, including the driver, for community outings.
  • Maintain related activity and maintenance records, as required.
  • Provide input and feedback on program activities at regular planning meetings.
  • Accompany residents and/or transport one or more passengers by operating a vehicle and/or bus with a seating capacity between 11 and 25 passengers, including the driver, on community outings.
  • Check residents have appropriate clothing/equipment for activities and confirm and coordinate proposed activity with nursing/medical staff.
  • Assist in embarking and disembarking passengers from the bus.
  • Participate in team conferences, staff meetings, in-service education, and provide input to resident care conferences.
  • Organize materials required for programs and maintain inventory of equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment and supply needs to the Recreation Therapist.
  • Access resident comfort funds for outings and shopping and complete documentation relating to use of resident monies.
  • Provide direction to volunteers during activity programs and demonstrate related techniques as required.
  • Perform routine inspection/maintenance duties on vehicles and equipment and recommend vehicle and/or equipment repairs as required.
  • Maintain related log books as required.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12, completion of recognized recreational courses such as handicrafts.
  • Two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Class IV Driver's License (unrestricted) and/or Class III Driver's License with air brake endorsement as required per vehicle(s).
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to teach.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
