Geotechnical Field Technician - Terrapex Environmental Ltd.

The successful candidate will provide geotechnical field inspection and testing services on various projects, including transportation, land development, residential, commercial, and industrial projects, working out of Terrapex's Ottawa branch.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspection of the installation of driven pile, caissons, reinforcing steel, tiebacks, retaining walls, and ground improvements;
  • Inspection and approval of foundation bearing surfaces;
  • Assisting the geotechnical engineer in field activities including borehole layout, geotechnical drilling, test pitting, surveying, vibration monitoring, and pre-construction condition surveys;
  • Conducting field testing such as compaction testing on earth fill, granular, and asphalt materials, plastic concrete sampling and testing, as part of QC or QA programs;
  • Assisting in laboratory testing as needed, for soils and aggregates;
  • Participating in all assigned Health and Safety training programs;
  • Attending technical training programs as required;
  • Maintaining strong and effective working relationships with Terrapex staff as well as clients and subcontractors;

Requirements and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in Construction Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology is preferred. A Secondary School Diploma will also be considered based on previous work experience, trade, or training.
  • Available to work flexible schedules including occasional weekends, in various weather conditions, and may require additional hours and travel to site locations for extended periods within Ontario;
  • Ability to work in all outdoor climates and mobility over various terrain;
  • Good oral and written English communication skills;
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have regular access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance;
  • Valid (ASTM, ACI, CCIL) Certifications would be an asset or ability to complete necessary certifications.
