Job Title: Occupational Therapist, Low Vision

Join Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada, a unique health services organization that serves people who are blind or partially sighted across the country. We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our team and provide low vision rehabilitation services to our clients.

Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist, Low Vision will work under the philosophy of Occupational Therapy, delivering services in a client-centered framework. The successful candidate will apply science, knowledge, and occupational therapy skills to work with individuals with vision loss, addressing vision and other physical conditions that impact occupational performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct functional low vision assessments to identify the individual's strengths and challenges.
  • Teach individuals with partial sight how to maximize residual vision and adapt to their visual impairment.
  • Recommend and train in the use of optical and non-optical aids to enhance daily living skills.
  • Educate individuals about their eye condition and vision health, promoting independence and self-advocacy.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement client-centered plans for occupational therapy and low vision services.
  • Provide job site assessments and ergonomic recommendations to promote safe and efficient work environments.
  • Address additional challenges caused by stroke, TBI, and other cognitive impairments, ensuring comprehensive support for clients.
Requirements
  • Master of Occupational Therapy Degree
  • Current practicing member of the designated provincial Occupational Therapy regulatory body
  • Knowledge of normal and abnormal early childhood development
  • 3 or more years' experience working with children with vision loss and additional disabling conditions (an asset)
  • Valid driver's license and current clean child abuse registry and criminal records check
  • ACVREP certification required
