Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Speech Language Pathologist Assistant to join our team, working in a multidisciplinary setting with Speech-Language Pathologists, Physiotherapists, and Occupational Therapists. The successful candidate will provide support to our Community Step Up Program, developing a collaborative approach to care for clients and their caregivers.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist stroke victims, paraplegics, and individuals with hearing impairments in normalizing their speech patterns.
  2. Support patients who have experienced accidents or traumatic incidents in learning or relearning proper swallowing techniques.
  3. Provide therapy and support to patients' families to facilitate social integration and recovery.
  4. Prepare and administer screening, assessment, therapy, and educational materials.
  5. Collect patient information, as directed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
  6. Administer and score communication and hearing screenings to identify patients requiring a speech-language assessment.
  7. Assist Speech-Language Pathologists during assessments and deliver specified treatment, remediation, or education sessions.
  8. Communicate with families, caregivers, and team members about patient performance, as defined by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
  9. Write patient progress notes reflecting their performance and behaviors.
  10. Support individuals with a range of disorders related to speech, language, and swallowing.

Requirements

  1. Masters in Speech and Language Pathology.
  2. Working towards registration with the College of Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario in 2024.
  3. Experience working with seniors and stroke clients is ideal.
  4. Community experience is an asset.
  5. Ability to work in Mississauga and provide services virtually.
  6. Valid Vulnerable Sector screening check.
  7. Bilingualism is preferred.
