Job Title: Judicial Clerk

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding career in the justice sector? We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Judicial Clerk to join our team at the Government of Alberta.

Job Summary:

The Judicial Clerk will provide administrative support to the court, including organizing and managing court records, maintaining the court's digital recording system, and ensuring the decorum of the court. The successful candidate will also be responsible for liaising with judiciary, lawyers, police, and the general public, as well as reviewing and filing documents in accordance with the Alberta Rules of Court and various Provincial and Federal statutes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and manage court records, including operation of the digital recording system
  • Maintain the decorum of the court
  • Liaise with judiciary, lawyers, police, and the general public
  • Review and file documents in accordance with the Alberta Rules of Court and various Provincial and Federal statutes
  • Provide administrative support to the court, including data entry, production, and processing of court orders
  • Exercise non-presiding Justice of the Peace duties, including conducting administrative bail releases and explaining terms of release to offenders in custody
  • Commissioner of Oaths duties, including conducting oaths and affirmations
  • Manage various databases and programs
  • Facilitate multiple forms of appearances, including in-person and web-based technologies

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma and a minimum of six months of workplace experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience as a Court or Counter Clerk, or in an administrative role working in a Courthouse. A Legal Assistant or Paralegal Certificate or Diploma is considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

The Judicial Clerk will work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines. The successful candidate will be required to work extended periods of sitting and/or standing, and will be required to lift files/exhibits up to 25 lbs. A valid Driver's Licence (class 5) and a reliable vehicle are required for travel to circuit Court locations in our regional offices.
