About the Role

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the position of Director, Mineral Management. This role is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the Mineral Management Division, ensuring the effective management of the province's mineral resources in accordance with the Mineral Resources Act and Regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Executive Director and/or Minister on issues related to mining, mineral tenure, and regulatory processes.
  • Lead the implementation of regulatory requirements and direct the activity of the Registry of Mineral and Petroleum Titles.
  • Effectively lead a team, maintain internal communications, monitor revenues and expenditures, and forecast and report budget requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with government and mining industry partners to encourage best practices in mineral exploration and mining.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you must hold a bachelor's or graduate degree in Engineering or Science in a relevant discipline, such as mining, geotechnical, geological, metallurgical, civil, or geoscience. You must also be eligible for registration with Engineers of Nova Scotia or the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Nova Scotia.

Extensive experience in mining industry operations, government administration, or a mining-related organization is required. You must be familiar with Nova Scotia's and Canada's mineral industries, public policy, and regulatory issues in resource management.
