Job Summary

The Operating Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the company's facility and refrigeration equipment. This role requires a strong focus on minimizing interruptions in warehouse operations, ensuring employee safety, and maintaining customer product at required temperatures at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and promote a culture where Health and Safety is the top priority, providing leadership and support for Health & Safety initiatives within the department.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with all team members within each of the facilities.
  • Carry out daily checks on refrigeration and make necessary repairs or adjustments.
  • Be available for on-call duties as scheduled.
  • Tour the warehouse on a regular basis to ensure the building is safe and supports warehouse activities.
  • Follow preventative maintenance programs to minimize disruptions in warehouse operations.
  • Monitor and adjust equipment to lower utility costs.
  • Enforce established safety, health, contamination, and housekeeping policies and procedures to minimize staff injuries, lost production time, damage, and contamination of product.
  • Operate within and promote compliance with the Code of Business Conduct, company policies and procedures, and all statues and legislation governing the workplace.
  • Participate in other initiatives, projects, and duties as assigned.

Key Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in a related role.
  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems is essential for this position.
  • Valid Refrigeration B Operator Certificate at minimum, 4th class Power Engineer certificate preferred.
  • Commitment to health and safety in the workplace.
  • Driven to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Embraces change and has a continuous improvement philosophy.
  • In-depth knowledge of provincial regulations regarding operating engineering and refrigeration, elevating devices, building and fire code, local bylaws, environmental, labour, and health and safety legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent computer skills, including fluent use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly understand and identify issues and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude with a hands-on and team-oriented work style.
  • Ability to work in temperatures of -30 degrees Celsius as required.
