Job Title: Senior Counsel - Corporate Law

About the Role:

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Counsel to join its in-house legal department. As a Senior Counsel, you will play a key role in providing strategic legal advice and support to OPG's business units, with a focus on corporate law.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality legal advice on corporate law matters, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and securities law;
  • Develop and implement legal strategies to support OPG's business objectives;
  • Collaborate with OPG's business units to identify and mitigate legal risks;
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant legal developments and provide guidance on their impact on OPG's business;
  • Work closely with OPG's external counsel to ensure effective and efficient delivery of legal services;
  • Contribute to the development of OPG's legal policies and procedures;
  • Provide training and guidance to OPG's employees on legal matters;
  • Participate in OPG's business planning and strategy development processes;
  • Represent OPG in legal matters and negotiations;
  • Manage and supervise junior lawyers and legal support staff;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • JD or LLB degree from a recognized law school;
  • Minimum 7 years of experience practicing law in Ontario, with a focus on corporate law;
  • Proven track record of providing high-quality legal advice and support to business units;
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities;
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of OPG's business objectives;
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with OPG's business units and external stakeholders;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
