Job Title: Labourer/Operator

We are seeking highly skilled individuals for Labourer/Operator positions within our Public Works Division.

Job Summary:

The Labourer/Operator will be responsible for performing various tasks related to labouring and operating heavy equipment. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Labourer work: general labour work, forms, asphalt, concrete, pipe laying, traffic control, trenching/ditching, etc.
  • Operator work: Heavy Equipment operation; backhoe, grader, pay loader, sander, refuse collection, tandem truck, plow truck, etc.
Responsibilities:

The Labourer/Operator will be responsible for:

  • Performing labourer work, including but not limited to: preparing and transporting materials, preparing the work site, asphalt work, cleaning up the work site and cleaning work tools.
  • Operating heavy equipment, including but not limited to: backhoe, grader, pay loader, sander, refuse collection, tandem truck, plow truck, etc.
  • Cleaning trucks, equipment and tools as required.
  • Ensuring trucks and equipment are safely and securely stored.
  • Providing manual labour services as required, including refuse collection.
  • Operating basic hand tools, such as saws, shovels, rakes, etc.
  • Working outside with exposure to various weather elements.
  • Wearing various Personal Protection Equipment to complete tasks.
  • Attending scheduled shifts, on call and overtime as needed.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Class 'DZ' license, with an excellent driving record (driver's abstract will be requested).
  • Two years tandem truck driving experience is preferred.
  • Skills in cement finishing, pipe laying, bricklaying, asphalt work, are an asset.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work, including but not limited to: using hands to operate objects, tools or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional and responsible manner.
