Job Overview

The Advisor, Water Management will play a critical role in performing water management planning and execution at the Ekati Diamond Mine. Reporting to the Manager, Environment and Permitting, and working closely with other environment and engineering professionals, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading life-of-mine and mid-range water management planning, including underground working and open pit dewatering, lake/pond water transfer, and mine water discharge.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in water management and planning, with a bachelor's degree in geoscience or engineering and at least 10 years of progressive technical experience in mine water management and planning. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal departments and external organizations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead life-of-mine and mid-range water management planning, including underground working and open pit dewatering, lake/pond water transfer, and mine water discharge
  • Develop and maintain water balance and quality models, as well as manage and direct water balance and quality databases
  • Lead the development and maintenance of water management plans and procedures
  • Manage water management consultants in surface water and groundwater model development and report preparation
  • Identify and mitigate water management risks and communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in water management-related permitting proceedings and stakeholder engagement events
  • Provide water management inputs during life-of-mine and mid/short-range mine planning processes
  • Provide training and guidance to other staff on water management principles and plans
