First Nations Engagement Coordinator

We are seeking a highly motivated and culturally sensitive individual to join our team as a First Nations Engagement Coordinator. This role will play a key part in building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities, supporting the development of Lékwéngén programs and initiatives, and contributing to the organization's commitment to Indigenous reconciliation.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and maintain relationships with internal staff and teams, as well as with Songhees Nation and Xwsepsësm Nation.
- Support the planning and coordination of Lékwéngén employment programs, including annual seasonal recruitment and summer youth program.
- Build relationships with Songhees Nation and Xwsepsësm Nation employment leads.
- Develop materials for the promotion of GVHA employment programs in community.
- Liaise with GVHA staff to seamlessly implement programs across the organization.
- Support HR with local Indigenous career fairs in community and at local universities and colleges.
- Support Lékwéngén participation in GVHA-led events and events taking place on GVHA managed property.
- Assist with planning and coordination of Lékwéngén participation in inaugural cruise calls and the first cruise call of the season.
- Build relationships with the Lékwéngén dance groups and coordinate their involvement.
- Support Lékwéngén activations in the Inner Harbour and at Ship Point.
- Attend local Indigenous events on behalf of GVHA and support GVHA's participation in sponsored events.
- Develop communication materials that support Indigenous initiatives and Lékwéngén programs.
- Assist in developing, researching and writing content and key messages regarding GVHA Lékwéngén programs to share on social media channels.
- Ensure the accurate use of Lékwéngén terms and wording with an understanding of the nuance and importance of language.
- Assist with the planning and coordination of Lékwéngén placemaking projects across GVHA properties.
- Liaise and support the Indigenous Artists on the Causeway program.
- Monitor and track program outcomes and lessons learned, drafting reports and correspondence as required.
- Book and schedule meetings with Songhees Nation and Xwsepsësm Nation staff and cultural knowledge keepers.
- Manage honorariums for Lékwéngén participation in GVHA programs and events.
- Input and update GVHA's reconciliation action plan to support GVHA's participation in the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations program.
- Provide administrative support as required to Director, First Nations Engagement.
- High school diploma required.
- Business or relevant diploma is an asset.
- 2+ years' experience working with Lékwéngén people, culture, protocol, language, etc.
- Experience in community engagement.
- Experience in event planning and/or project coordination.
- Proficient or willingness to learn computer skills, including all Microsoft programs.
- Monthly salary range of $4,167 to $4,583, plus after 90 days eligible for comprehensive health benefits with 100% employer paid premiums, RRSP with company match, and paid time off.
- Site visits to GVHA facilities during project/event implementation.
- Regular off-site meetings at Xwsepsësm or Songhees Nation offices.
- Occasional evenings and weekends are required to participate in company and community First Nations events.
