Indigenous Engagement and Knowledge Specialist
We are seeking an experienced Indigenous Engagement and Knowledge Specialist to join our team in British Columbia. As a key member of our Environmental Permitting and Management team, you will play a critical role in leading consultation and engagement activities with First Nations and Indigenous communities.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and coordinate Indigenous, stakeholder, and regulatory engagement programs, including communication materials, workshops, and open houses.
- Review Indigenous Knowledge studies and incorporate information into environmental impact assessments.
- Support the assessment of project impacts on Indigenous and Treaty Rights and Interests.
- Develop and maintain project/task schedules and budgets for engagement, and monitor project progress.
- Support business development efforts, including client identification, proposal writing, and client-facing activities.
- Ensure consultation and engagement with Indigenous Peoples is carried out in a culturally relevant way, observing local protocols.
- Participate in industry events through presentations and/or membership in industry organizations.

Requirements:
- Indigenous Traditional Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous worldview.
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, Social Science, or similar.
- 10+ years relevant experience working on Environmental programs with First Nations and Indigenous communities, Environmental/Impact Assessments (EA/IA).
- Lived experience is a strong asset.
- Understanding of provincial, federal, and territorial EA/IA processes. Experience in Environmental Permitting is an asset.
- Understanding and awareness of Indigenous laws with a focus on Indigenous Knowledge systems.
- Understanding of trauma-informed approaches.
- Experience facilitating culturally relevant workshops and open houses for Indigenous participants.
- Experience delivering cultural awareness training for internal staff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and French language skills are considered an asset.
- Ability to plan and prioritize workload to manage multiple assignments at one time.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Willing to travel.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- OCAP (Ownership, Control, Access, Possession) certification/knowledge is an asset.
Compensation Range:
Expected compensation for this role is between $80,000 - $120,000 annually, based on skills, experience, location, and potential impact on the role.
