Job Summary

The Associate Student Recruiter Advisor is responsible for promoting programs and services at Douglas College by maintaining and executing domestic student recruitment programs. This role involves providing exceptional client-centred service to all stakeholder groups, including public and private schools, colleges, universities, government agencies, community and parent groups.

Key Responsibilities

1. Promotes and coordinates programs for domestic student recruitment and related presentation duties, including:
a. Presenting relevant information to small and large groups on the benefits of post-secondary education, Douglas programs, admission requirements, student services, financial awards, student life, articulated partnerships, future expansion plans, and proposed degree programs.
b. Providing accurate information to domestic students on possible post-secondary programs at Douglas based on their interest areas.
c. Establishing vital connections and rapport with public and independent secondary schools, government agencies, and parent and community groups.
d. Developing and maintaining positive relationships within the university and college community and other institutions, businesses, and community agencies.
e. Assessing inquiries from secondary school counselors and teachers and providing and/or directing them to appropriate information on programs and services at Douglas to better advise their students.
f. Responding to in-person, telephone, email, web-based communications, and regular mail inquiries from public and private schools, colleges, universities, government agencies, community, and parent groups.
g. Supporting the research and development of program assessment reports.
h. Coordinating and organizing mailings of Douglas College viewbooks, brochures, and other collateral materials.
i. Maintaining and utilizing a contact database of potential domestic students, parents, counselors, and other external institutions through the Douglas CRM system.
j. Attending school or community visits, career fairs, and trade shows.
k. Traveling to recruiting venues; setting up displays, tables, and other promotional material/equipment.
l. Responding to all prospective stakeholders in a positive and knowledgeable manner regarding college programs, courses, services, policy, and education.
m. Setting up and using portable computer, projector, and other audio-visual equipment, as well as troubleshooting for on-site technical difficulties related to making multimedia presentations.
n. Attending student visitation events to Douglas College.

2. Supervises the Student Ambassador volunteer group, including:
a. Directing FSO student staff in their support of Student Ambassador activities.
b. Leading the process of identification and recruitment of students for the DC Ambassador Program.
c. Conducting interactive and innovative trainings and group meetings for the Ambassadors.
d. Acting as a professional mentor to students in the experiential learning model of leadership and encouraging ongoing experiential learning opportunities for volunteers.
e. Coordinating regular communication and volunteer sign-up processes.
f. Assisting in assessments of Ambassador performance issues and participating in corrective action conversations as necessary.
g. Assisting in facilitating the use of assessment and reflection tools for Ambassador volunteers.

3. Provides onsite supervision for College events that involve student activities.

4. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field from a recognized post-secondary educational institution. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • A working knowledge of the B.C. post-secondary education system, including admission requirements and programs, graduation, partnerships, and articulated agreements with a clear emphasis on Douglas College.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, including written and verbal fluency in the English language.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with Microsoft Office on Mac platforms and the Microsoft Dynamics CRM system (or similar system) would be an asset.
  • Criminal Record Check is required as a condition of employment as per the Criminal Record Check Act.
  • A demonstrated ability to execute student recruiting activities, including speaking effectively to small and large groups, interviewing prospective and existing students, interacting with people of various backgrounds and cultures, developing and maintaining good working relationships, working as an effective team member, critically analyzing, reasoning, and problem-solving, planning, coordinating, and organizing work, working independently with minimal supervision, training and mentoring others, exercising sound judgment, and maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully participate in a wide range of recruiting events, including prospect engagement, volunteer management, and event supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and grow an experiential student leadership program, including member domestic recruitment, training, resource development, team building, communications, event planning, and evaluation.
  • A valid B.C. driver's license and access to a motor vehicle is essential.
