Job Summary

The Indigenous Student Recruiter Advisor plays a vital role in promoting programs and services at Douglas College by planning, maintaining, and executing domestic Indigenous student recruitment programs and services. This position provides exceptional client-centred service to all stakeholder groups, including prospective Indigenous students, parents, and community members.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Promoting and Coordinating Recruitment Strategies
    • Researches, designs, and implements recruitment and relationship-building events, programs, and services on-campus, off-campus, and virtually for prospective Indigenous students.
    • Collaborates with Indigenous Student Services, the Aboriginal Stream, the Student Navigator, and other stakeholders to support Indigenous students during the recruitment phase.
    • Presents relevant information to small and large groups on the benefits of post-secondary education, Douglas College programs, admission requirements, student services, financial awards, and funding options.
  2. Supervising Student Assistants and Co-op Students
    • Identifies, interviews, and hires Student Assistant and Co-op positions under the direction of the Supervisor and the Manager.
    • Designs and implements appropriate training experiences and acts as a professional mentor to student employees.
    • Coordinates the scheduling and daily operations of this group, including monitoring absences and providing time sheet approval.
  3. Supporting the Associate Student Recruiter Advisor
    • Provides onsite supervision for College events that involve student activities.
    • Supports the Associate Student Recruiter Advisor in their supervision of the Student Ambassador volunteer group.
Requirements
  • Indigenous ancestry preferred or extensive cultural awareness, intimate understanding of ways of knowing and being, and worked with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
  • Understanding the unique history, laws, and funding options of Indigenous peoples in Canada, and the unique barriers they face when accessing post-secondary education.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field from a recognized post-secondary educational institution plus two years' related work experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, including written and verbal fluency in the English language.
