At Alpha Adroit, we are seeking a highly skilled Offshore Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on exciting projects and contribute to the company's growth.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting offshore geotechnical investigations, integrating geophysical and geotechnical data, and developing ground models. They will also provide geotechnical input to risk registers and report changes to the geotechnical risks when they arise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out desk studies, burial risk assessments, interpret onshore and offshore ground investigation data, and develop ground models.
  • Work offshore on geotechnical and geophysical vessels on regional and international projects.
  • Integrate geophysical and geotechnical data to develop ground models.
  • Provide geotechnical input to risk registers and report changes to the geotechnical risks when they arise.
  • Assist with preparation of scope and specification, supervision, and management of the offshore ground investigation.
  • Work within a team environment collecting geotechnical data, seabed soil and rock samples, and performing in situ testing using standard and advanced marine coring and penetration tools.
  • Conduct offshore Geotechnical Investigation such as CPT, coring, and sampling, and ensure boreholes are drilled correctly.
  • Conduct offshore core logging to classify seabed soil and rock samples, and perform index and strength testing on collected samples.
  • Preserve offshore samples for transport to onshore laboratory testing facility.
  • Guide and oversee junior engineers and field technicians in conducting seabed sampling and in situ and field laboratory testing, and identify training needs.
  • Adhere to Alpha Adroit and client-required Health, Safety, and Environmental protocols at all times.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on all offshore geotechnical testing and data processing, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Assist Site Superintendent in planning, coordinating, and managing field data acquisition and sampling activities.
  • Produce daily field reports and communicate progress to onboard client representative and onshore client.
  • Produce field reports using Quality Management Systems (QMS) reporting protocol and procedures, comprising offshore operations, sampling, in situ testing, and index testing procedures and results.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Bachelor degree (BS or BSc) in Civil Engineering, Geology, Ocean Engineering, Naval Engineering, Offshore Engineering, or another related field.
  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of marine (offshore or nearshore) geotechnical investigation experience performing and leading marine (offshore or nearshore) activities.
  • Relevant experience may include geophysics, offshore structures, and foundations on a variety of projects including offshore pipelines, offshore wind energy, subsea interconnectors, marine renewable energy, subsea cables and pipelines, and marine environment, with a focus on offshore geotechnical investigations.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical laboratory testing in an offshore data collection environment.
  • Experience in soil and rock classification and determining standard engineering properties.
  • Working proficiency with Microsoft Office software and ability to quickly learn job-specific software applications.
  • Excellent English writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible, innovative, and the ability to work in teams are critical requirements for this position.
  • Ability to work long hours (12-hour shifts) in the field, sometimes under pressure and severe weather conditions, and always within deadlines.
  • Ability to work offshore and travel internationally, without any travel restrictions.
  • Acceptable driving record and possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Completion of a pre-employment physical exam and drug screening.
  • Demonstrable experience in the delivery of geotechnical projects and reports.
  • Experience on subsea cables and pipeline route and landfall selection, marine survey scoping, and interpretation, and installation requirements are considered a plus.
  • Use or management of GIS datasets, working experience with ArcGIS.
  • Understanding of data relating to shipping, fishing, subsea infrastructure, and UXO (Unexploded Explosive Ordnance).
  • Awareness of Canadian marine regulatory processes, environment, and stakeholders is considered an asset.
  • Having offshore pipelines, offshore wind farm, or offshore oil and gas experience is a requirement.
  • Experience with gINT Log software is considered an asset.
  • Excellent safety attitude.
Estimated Salary

$80,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience.
