About the Role

Hitachi Energy Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled Harmonic Analysis Engineer to join our HVDC team in Montreal. As a key member of our Harmonic Analysis group, you will be responsible for interpreting customer requirements and analyzing their feasibility, performing harmonics studies supporting high voltage equipment definition, and ensuring compliance with project start-up and operation requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct harmonic studies and analyze small-signal stability in the harmonic range for HVDC stations and windfarms.
  • Evaluate harmonic power quality requirements and propose mitigation measures as needed.
  • Calculate harmonic stresses in HVDC station main circuit equipment and recommend re-designs or mitigation measures.
  • Develop tools in Excel, MATLAB, or Python to effectively analyze and process large amounts of data.
  • Participate in negotiations and present challenges to customers or suppliers.
  • Write clear technical reports describing complex study work.
  • Participate in conferences and standardization work groups within the international engineering community.
  • Perform compliance measurements during commissioning.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineering degree in Electric Power Engineering or similar.
  • 2+ years of experience with harmonics analysis and studies on high voltage substations.
  • Ability to model and analyze electrical circuits in frequency-domain.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with EMT tools like PSCAD and programming experience in MATLAB is an asset.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
  • French speaking is an asset.
