BasSaintLaurent, Canada HITACHI ENERGY CANADA INC. Full time

About Us

At Hitachi Energy Canada Inc., we are committed to advancing a sustainable energy future for all. Our purpose is to bring power to our homes, schools, hospitals, and factories, while promoting a culture of innovation, diversity, and collaboration.

Our Mission

We strive to be world leaders in electric power by helping countries to have greener, stronger, and cleaner electricity. Our goal is to reduce our impact on the planet by bringing sustainable energy to more and more people.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Harmonic Analysis Engineer to join our HVDC team in Montreal. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for interpreting customer requirements and analyzing their feasibility, performing harmonics studies, and supporting high voltage equipment definition.

Responsibilities

  • Perform harmonic related studies (< 15 KHZ) and participate in project groups
  • Evaluate whether specified harmonic power quality requirements can be fulfilled, and analyze small-signal stability in the harmonic range (harmonic stability)
  • Calculate harmonic stresses in all HVDC station main circuit equipment and evaluate whether mitigation measures or re-designs are required due to excessive harmonic stresses
  • Develop small tools in e.g., Excel, MATLAB, or Python to effectively analyze and process large amounts of data for your study work
  • Effectively participate in negotiations, internally and with customers or suppliers, presenting and discussing challenges on your own work and path forward on a higher level
  • Write clear technical reports describing complex study work in a professional manner
  • Participate in conferences and standardization work groups in your field within the international engineering communities
  • Compliance measurements during commissioning are also among your responsibilities

Requirements

  • We are looking for an engaged, structured, persistent, well-organized, and driven person who is a true team player
  • Professional Engineering with Bachelor's or MSc. degree in Electric Power Engineering or similar
  • 2+ years of experience with harmonics analysis and studies on high voltage substations
  • You can model and analyze electrical circuits in frequency-domain – by hand and via computer – and understand how multi-phase systems can be analyzed using modes
  • You face problems with a structured mindset, understanding that models and calculations are estimations, but also, that input data could be arbitrary and that some requirements must be challenged and discussed with customer to solve real problems
  • You are a team player with excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Experience of EMT tools like PSCAD is advantageous and programming experience in MATLAB is highly appreciated
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken is required to be able to interact with various stakeholders
  • French speaking is an asset
