About the Role
Hitachi Energy Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled Harmonic Analysis Engineer to join our HVDC team in Montreal. As a key member of our Harmonic Analysis group, you will be responsible for interpreting customer requirements and analyzing their feasibility, performing harmonics studies, and supporting high voltage equipment definition.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct harmonic studies and analyze small-signal stability in the harmonic range (harmonic stability) when connecting HVDC stations to the network or windfarms.
- Evaluate whether specified harmonic power quality requirements can be fulfilled and propose active or passive mitigation measures as needed.
- Calculate harmonic stresses in all HVDC station main circuit equipment and evaluate whether mitigation measures or re-designs are required due to excessive harmonic stresses.
- Develop tools in Excel, MATLAB, or Python to effectively analyze and process large amounts of data for study work.
- Participate in negotiations, internally and with customers or suppliers, presenting and discussing challenges on your own work and path forward.
- Write clear technical reports describing complex study work in a professional manner.
- Participate in conferences and standardization work groups in your field within the international engineering communities.
- Perform compliance measurements during commissioning.
Requirements
- Professional Engineering with a Bachelor's or MSc. degree in Electric Power Engineering or similar.
- 2+ years of experience with harmonics analysis and studies on high voltage substations.
- Ability to model and analyze electrical circuits in frequency-domain, by hand and via computer, and understand how multi-phase systems can be analyzed using modes.
- Structured mindset, understanding that models and calculations are estimations, but also, that input data could be arbitrary and that some requirements must be challenged and discussed with customer to solve real problems.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Experience with EMT tools like PSCAD is advantageous and programming experience in MATLAB is highly appreciated.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required to be able to interact with various stakeholders. French speaking is an asset.
