About Us

The Government of Nova Scotia's Correctional Services division is responsible for administering and operating community and custody-based programs and services for individuals in custody and young persons.

Within the core business area, there are two programs: community corrections and correctional facilities. Each program area has closely related activities that impact its target group.

About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Administrative Assistant (Secretary 2) to provide full-range administrative and clerical support at the Nova Scotia Youth Centre (NSYC) in Waterville. As a member of the administrative team, you will assist with other clerical and administrative work as required.

In this role, you will support the Youth Custody Manager based at the NS Youth Centre, performing tasks such as drafting correspondence, coordinating meetings, maintaining files, sorting mail, managing records, photocopying, and maintaining office equipment.

  • Drafting correspondence to stakeholders and external parties
  • Coordinating meetings and events
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date filing systems
  • Sorting and distributing mail efficiently
  • Managing sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality
  • Assisting with sentence calculations and record-keeping
  • Maintaining petty cash and managing expenses
Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this opportunity, you must hold a relevant 1-year diploma or degree and have 3 or more years of administrative experience. You should also possess effective interpersonal, communication, and team collaboration skills, as well as organizational abilities and attention to detail.

You will complete your work with autonomy, discretion, tact, and sound judgment, respecting the confidential nature of your work. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, are essential. Previous experience in a correctional service setting or similar environment is an asset.
