We are seeking an experienced Data Science Manager to lead our data engineering and science teams at Lyft. As a key member of our engineering organization, you will be responsible for shaping our data-driven decision-making processes and driving the development of our mapping products.
Responsibilities- Co-own the team strategy with tech leads and ensure timely delivery of high-quality engineering solutions.
- Lead a team of talented data engineers and scientists to drive projects and innovate new solutions for our routing experience.
- Mentor and guide team members in their professional and technical development, helping them grow in their careers.
- Provide guidance on developing and leveraging data and analytic frameworks to improve our routing stack and ETA predictions.
- Partner with product managers, engineers, marketers, and operators to translate data insights into decisions and action.
- Build teams that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other.
- Create plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges in your organization.
- Maintain a balance between building sustainable, high-impact projects and shipping things quickly.
- Work closely with the Lyft recruiting team to hire high-potential candidates from diverse backgrounds.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science and engineering, such as Python or SQL.
- Familiarity with data processing frameworks and tools like Spark, Kafka, Airflow, and cloud provisioning environments.
- 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
- Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams of data scientists, data engineers, and other technical professionals.
- Experience providing active mentorship and career guidance.
- Ability to align technical initiatives with business objectives and priorities.
- Experience launching and monitoring consumer-facing products and iterating through data-driven experimentation and metrics analysis.
- Experience organizing on-calls to detect and react to issues in production quickly.
- Prior experience in the mapping domain is a plus.
