PhD Student Opportunity in Environmental Microbiome Engineering

Located at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada, this exciting PhD student position focuses on anaerobic biotechnology for resource recovery from wastes. The research project involves developing anaerobic microbial bioprocesses, metagenomics, bioinformatics, and process modeling.

This graduate-level opportunity is part of the Environmental Microbial Biotechnology for Resource Recovery (EMBeRR) Lab, a dynamic and collaborative research group combining conventional process engineering fundamentals with microbiome science, bioinformatics, and modeling.

The successful candidate will be supported by a grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). The PhD student will work closely with project team members and communicate results through peer-reviewed journal articles and presentations at national and international conferences.

To qualify, candidates must have an undergraduate or master's degree in environmental, chemical, civil engineering, or a related field. Previous experience in environmental biotechnology, wastewater treatment, microbiology, and bioinformatics is desired.
