Job Summary

The Homelessness Outreach Worker plays a vital role in connecting with individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless in community locations. This position requires a strong understanding of the causal factors of homelessness, mental illness, and addiction, as well as the importance of cultural and community connections in supporting individuals to improve well-being and exit homelessness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with government, private, and community-based housing providers to support individuals in need.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with service providers and community partners to ensure an integrated system of supports and services.
  • Collaborate with shelters and supportive housing providers to provide rapid support for individuals sheltering outdoors.
  • Support communities to prevent, minimize, and resolve encampments through coordination and rapid support.
  • Work with individuals from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, providing empathetic and confidential support.

Requirements

  • High School diploma plus completion of post-secondary courses in social housing, community development, mental health, trauma counselling, or a related field.
  • Considerable progressive experience in working with individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty.
  • Sound experience in liaising with government, private, and community-based housing providers.
  • Good understanding of traditional, cultural, and holistic wellness and healing initiatives.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications and software, including MS Office tools.
