Job Summary:

The Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented students to join our Enhanced Extern Program as Healthcare Professional Assistants.

About the Role:

This exciting opportunity allows students to work in a clinical environment, developing and consolidating competencies to prepare for transition into a registered role upon completion of their studies. Successful candidates will gain valuable patient care experience and build connections within an interprofessional environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Practice under the direct and/or indirect supervision of a healthcare professional, providing patient-centered care that aligns with organizational Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Carry out or assist with activities of daily living, including patient care activities such as assistance with feeding, toileting, bathing, dressing, mobility assistance, and vital sign taking.
  • Contribute to care planning and implementation of existing care plan interventions under the direction of a nurse.
  • Activation, companionship, and social engagement with patients.
  • Reporting changes in patient status or safety concerns to a supervising nurse.
Required Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in a nursing, paramedic, undergraduate medical, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, or physiotherapy program.
  • Current certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Completion of any orientation and mandatory training during onboarding.
  • Continued evidence of good academic standing with enrolled program.
  • Evidence of successful learning experiences in recent clinical placements.
Working Conditions:

Rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, in various clinical areas such as Adult Mental Health, Cardiac Renal Unit, Cancer Palliative Unit, Emergency Department, Inpatient Medicine Units, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, and Surgical Inpatient Units.

Salary Information:

The estimated annual salary for this position is $45,000 - $60,000 CAD, depending on location and level of experience.
