Warming Centre Attendant Opportunity

About the Role:

The City of Vancouver is seeking a Warming Centre Attendant to provide overnight support and shelter operations for individuals experiencing homelessness. As a key member of our team, you will work collaboratively with staff and external partners to maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and take down shelter operations, ensuring a smooth and efficient overnight experience for guests.
  • Problem-solve independently and liaise with stakeholders as needed to address any issues that may arise.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for staff, volunteers, and guests, adhering to shelter policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with guests, staff, and external partners, demonstrating empathy and understanding of the complex issues faced by marginalized populations.
  • Monitor guest behavior and the overall shelter environment, responding to incidents and crises with de-escalation methods and crisis management techniques.
  • Perform routine janitorial duties and maintain accurate records, including incident reports and guest attendance reports.

Requirements:

  • Completion of grade ten and Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification.
  • Related experience working with marginalized populations is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, conflict resolution skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Valid Occupational First Aid - Level I certification preferred.

What We Offer:

The City of Vancouver offers a competitive hourly rate of $27.04 to $31.66, depending on experience. This is a seasonal, overnight position with no guarantee of hours, weather dependent.
