Research Development Officer

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a highly skilled Research Development Officer to join the Office of the VP Research. The Office provides comprehensive support for research creation and translation, oversees external funding applications, and serves as the central hub for institutional grant proposals, contracts, and awards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice and support to researchers on proposal development, grant writing, and research funding opportunities.
  • Liaise with TRU researchers, funding agencies, and external partners to develop and cultivate research partnerships.
  • Identify, solicit, and cultivate major funding agencies, including provincial, federal, and national agencies, not-for-profits, for-profits, and foundations.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of funding opportunities and requirements, and match opportunities to faculty members' strengths and areas of expertise.
  • Assist and advise researchers and research teams in developing and submitting research proposals, and provide expert guidance on grant applications.
  • Review and interpret feedback on unsuccessful grants with researchers to assist in strengthening future funding applications.
  • Maintain knowledge of funding programs, policies, regulations, and procedures, and disseminate changes to researchers.
  • Assist the Director of Research Services in developing and administering large institutional applications, and support researchers' engagement and development programs.
  • Monitor and report on faculty research, and leverage key areas of activity for proposals and revenue growth.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or Master's degree with relevant research experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years of recent work experience in research development and grants management, including significant experience with proposal development, budgets, and reports.
  • Advanced knowledge of research methodologies, academic research organizations, and research funding agencies.
  • Exceptional knowledge of grant life cycle, successful grant application procedures, and institutional compliance requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
