The Student Ambassador position at Douglas College is a unique opportunity to support prospective and new international students in their transition to life in Canada, BC, and the Douglas College community.
Key Responsibilities- Assist prospective students with navigating the college website and providing admission-related information via various channels.
- Support new international students by socially connecting with them, providing information and resources about Douglas College and the surrounding community, and promoting participation in college-wide events.
- Work with the ambassador program to support prospective students and student ambassadors.
- Assist with creation of promotional materials for the program.
- Provide a report at the midpoint of the semester and at the conclusion of the program.
- Assist with various administrative duties.
- Initiate and maintain contact with new students.
- Answer new students' questions about essential campus services and support a peer-to-peer network.
- Support student leaders (mentors) in their position to help orient new students.
- Plan, implement, and promote events within the program and for DCI.
- Field questions from prospective students via various channels.
- Assist Admissions Coordinators with various administrative duties such as database management and report compilation.
- Support prospective students and student ambassadors with navigating the college website and providing admission-related information via various channels.
- Assist Admission Coordinators with organizing promotional materials and merchandise inventory.
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver events for student leaders.
- Support Recruitment & Admission Coordinator in preparing and delivering online and in-person recruitment events.
- Promote Global Engagement and their programs around campus and on social media.
- Recruit and manage student volunteers for GE student support programming.
- Answer general questions about student experiences with study abroad and global citizenship.
- Maintain a GPA of 2.3 or above.
- Maintain positive conversations/interactions with prospective and new students through sharing experiences and stories.
- Strong leadership skills.
- A positive, outgoing attitude.
- Keen interest in working in an international setting.
- Keen interest in facilitating intercultural learning and discovery.
- Experience with social norms and values of more than one culture is an asset.
- Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to set and maintain boundaries.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Experience in administrative work.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
