Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Government of Nova Scotia Full time
About Us

The Government of Nova Scotia's Student Assistance Office provides equitable access to post-secondary education and training for all academically qualified Nova Scotians. Our needs-based assistance program helps students who would be unable to attend post-secondary study due to insufficient family resources. We also administer the Canada Student Loans and Grants programs and offer debt management tools to help students repay their loans.

About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a Program Administration Officer to assist post-secondary students in navigating our financial aid programs. This role involves responding to inquiries from students, parents, and government officials, as well as serving on the Lower Appeal Board and providing support to the Higher Appeal Board.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Deliver information presentations to educational institutions, both high school and post-secondary.
  • Assess financial problems encountered by student loan applicants, assist in completing relevant forms, and complete manual assessments when required.
  • Represent the Student Assistance Office at meetings with other departments, student groups, and client partners.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful, you must have a Bachelor's Degree and one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You should possess excellent interpersonal skills, experience in public speaking, and the ability to understand and explain complex program criteria to a wide range of stakeholders.

What We Offer
  • Career Development opportunities, including career guidance, tools, resources, and ongoing training.
  • An engaging workplace with forward-thinking policies and strategies.
  • Countless career paths and department-specific flexible working schedules.

We will assess your qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

Working Conditions

This is a temporary employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of 12/06/2024. The appointment status is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate. You must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel extensively throughout the province, including overnight stays, when required.
